Office used to work on my Windows 10 bit machine. Now it reports ‘The operating system is not presently configured to run this application’.

I tried both the quick and online repair. Neither work. If I uninstall and reinstall it still fails. If I restore my machine to a previous image the software works initially.

Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. I don’t know why no one has answered either, but I suspect that there are so many questions posted here that, unless the problem is easily identified and the solution already known, it’s more typical that no one will answer.

I did some more research into my problem. I decided to restore my system to my latest backup. The problem disappeared. Then I checked the behavior of Microsoft Office after every change – any Windows update and any installation of software that I might have applied since my last backup.

It turns out that the problem appears when I install Malwarebytes and it disappears when I uninstall it. So, I created a ticket with Malwarebytes and I’ll work with them to resolve the problem. It’s likely that they will claim an incompatibility with my anti-virus software and I’ll be left with the choice of Malwarebytes or my anti-virus software. However, it used to work with both. Frustrating, but that’s life in today’s online environment.
